Bora Bora

Formerly named Vavau, this island took the name Bora Bora under the influence of the explorer James Cook, meaning “First Born”. This famous English navigator referred to a legend according to which Ta’aroa, creator of the universe, designed this island immediately after Raiatea.

In 1942, Bora Bora became an important supply base for the American army, somewhat disrupting local life. Among the vestiges of this era are blockhouses, but also an airport, for a long time the largest in Polynesia and still in operation. Today, 50 minutes by plane are enough to connect Papeete to this romantic setting.

On the main island is the Royal Marotetini Marae, or Fare Rua, the largest on Bora Bora, facing the Teavanui Pass.

A unique lagoon in the world

A majestic volcanic island, like a queen surrounded by her subjects, Bora Bora has an extraordinary lagoon. Its particular geology, located halfway between high island and atoll, gives it a unique charm.

The crystalline lagoon can be explored in many ways: trips in glass-bottom boats, in canoes, aboard elegant yachts, and much more. The diving there is exceptional, allowing you to come across Manta rays, sharks, napoleons and other fascinating marine species.

A picnic on a white-sand motu offers an authentic Polynesian experience. Another way to experience the lagoon is to take a full guided jet ski tour, exploring the endless shades of blue while learning more about the island.

Fishing enthusiasts can venture into the open sea for memorable sessions.
