This museum is responsible for collecting, restoring, preserving and presenting objects from a bygone era. Tracing the history of Polynesians, it provides a glimpse into the culture and traditions that are largely forgotten today. These objects are sometimes also from various collections.
Throughout the duration of this exhibition (18 months), the works and objects that belonged to the ancestors will be highlighted in a new light. See here a new way to admire them thanks to the different staging proposed by the scientific team.
This exhibition will include a space dedicated to the history of the museum, explaining the purpose of the renovations and the project that is expected to emerge from them. The primary goal is to modernize it.
A second space will be dedicated to objects representative of the museum's collections, representing the 5 archipelagos of French Polynesia(Society, Tuamotu, Gambier, Australand Marquesas). This one will present the different works on board the representations of 4 canoes, image of the journey made by the elders who discovered and populated the islands of the Pacific and Polynesia. However, the museum could not accommodate a fifth pirogue due to lack of space, so it will miss the representation of an archipelago by the pirogues.
Also, the latest collections acquired will be presented in a display case thast will be offered during the visits.
Finally, an educational space will be set up to display 3D animations and the former exhibition room.
You will have the possibility to make group visits which will be done from 6 people, the visits are in French but it can be available in English on request.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00am to 5:00pm
Admission for adults: 600 XPF per person / 500 XPF per person for groups
Free admission for those under 18 years old.
